ANNOUNCER:  Welcome to the More Photos’ Radio Photography Spotlight brought to you by Morephotos.com helping professional photographers with all their internet needs world wide. Also brought to you by Labimages.com. Finally, an e-commerce solution for professional photo labs that makes sense. Now here’s your host, Damien Allen.  DAMIEN: Good afternoon and welcome to More Photos Radio. My name is Damien Allen and today joining me on the telephone is Bry Cox of BryCox.com and Celebrity Style Imaging, Inc., in Salt Lake City, Utah. Good afternoon and welcome to the program, Bry.

BRY: Thanks for having me.

DAMIEN: It’s a pleasure to have you here today, sir. You’re going to be speaking at the upcoming conference at Imaging USA with a workshop called Speed Shooting with the Pros.  Could you please tell us a little bit about what you’re going to be discussing at your workshop there?

BRY: Yeah, it’s part of the pre-convention part of the PPA, and the idea is instead of me speaking on a platform to a room of a 1000 people, instead there will be multiple photographers about 6 different groups of us working with smaller classes, capped at 45 people and each class is about 45 minutes long and everybody moves from class to class. The idea is to work more hands on with photographers and see how they work specifically.

DAMIEN: What day and time will your workshop be held during the conference? You said this is going to be pre-con?

BRY: Yes. This is the day before. Imaging USA is January 10th – 12th. I’m actually the 9th; January 9th, the day before and mine starts in the morning and there is six actually groups so basically you go through 3 and then you go to lunch and come back and go to 3 more.

DAMIEN: What do you hope your participants of this workshop are going to come away with at the end of the day?

BRY: Well I think really what it comes down to is how to work fast on location, because so many things that we do are out of the studio, weddings, you know, are always on location and the trick is to create fantastic photographs that people love and going to buy and yet at the same time you have to be able to light quickly, manage your equipment, and all your settings and all the different aspects of the environment. So really that’s what this is about is how to different photographers working quickly in different environments.

DAMIEN: How long have you been photographer, Bry, and how did you get started with Imaging USA?

BRY: I’ve been a full time photographer now for about 15 years, and I joined PPA about 10 years ago. I had my studio for quite a few years before I joined really because photographers kept telling me I should, and eventually I did, and I think it really changed my whole business from that point and as far as being involved with Imaging USA, they just called me and asked if I would be a part of this and I gladly accepted.

DAMIEN: Now you are the author of self help books for photographers. What is the best advice you can pass along to other photographers who are inspired by the work you are doing?

BRY: I really think photographers need to always be on the path of continual learning, because I know me, myself, I try to always read about 2 books a month, and I think you can’t get stagnant in your job or your technique. You always have to be learning, whether it be about business, marketing, sales, anything. Your technique, you always have to be learning, always be improving. I think that is really what all photographers need to get. I mean people will come to workshops and get a piece of information, but the truth is you can’t ever get everything you ever need. I think really what workshops do is get new ideas into photographers’ minds and that helps the photographer individually to get out there and pursue the information they need for their studio.

DAMIEN: What’s going to be new for Bry Cox and Celebrity Style Imaging in 2010? Do you have other workshops or conferences that you’re going to be attending? Are there some new projects that you’re working on?

BRY: Yeah. I always have new products. I recently came out with some new brushes and things. I’m always updating those things. New actions, new everything all the time, and I have been working on a 3rd book. It’s not ready yet, but as far as my workshop and things, they are always changing, because I am always studying and learning and trying things myself. So I’m always working those into the programs, and I have also noticed that photographers need things to change, like lately the economy changed, things like that, people have different needs that they need. So that’s always changing. As far as my studio goes, I’m the things I tell everybody else to do and that is constantly learn and study and be better in all areas of photography that I can be. So I can take my studio higher and higher every year.

DAMIEN: Would you kindly share your website and contact information for the listening audience please, Bry.

BRY: Yeah. My regular website is www.brycox.com and if you’re a photographer there’s a section there called workshops you can click on or you can go there directly by going to www.brycoxworkshops.com and that’s where I always have my updated teaching schedule, you know, where I’ll be, what I’ll be doing, and really anything else that I have like products and things for sale.

DAMIEN: We checked out your website and there are some awesome photography up there. You’re a photographer to the stars and have received many impressive awards and kudos. Could you tell us what makes a good photographer, Bry?

BRY: Yeah, that’s a tough question, but I think what it really comes down to, since you mentioned celebrities and stars, those kinds of events you have to work really quickly and really fast. You have to do a good job, and at the same time create fantastic photographs and you have to be really super mobile, minimal amount of equipment, and just the ability to think fast and have that whole technical side of things just working functionally in the background. You can’t have your equipment shooting on auto. Everything has to be manual so you have complete control over everything, but at the same time that means really knowing your gear, knowing your equipment, knowing how things work, and having that side be working in the background so that you can be the artist and not have a technical side of your mind competing with the creative side of your mind.

DAMIEN:   We would like to thank you for joining with us today and telling us what is going on with the Imaging USA Conference.

BRY: Oh, absolutely. I appreciate you calling.

DAMIEN: Not a problem at all.   We strongly encourage our listeners to attend Bry’s workshop Speed Shooting with the Pros and to attend the Imaging USA Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, January 10th – 12th, 2010.   Bry’s pre-convention show is on the 9th and you can get more information once you walk into the venue. You’ve been listening to More Photos Radio. My name is Damien Allen. Everybody have a great afternoon.
